Why we have a school uniform?
At Red Marsh all our EYFS, Primary and Secondary children are required to wear our school uniform as we believe a uniform helps to:
- promote the ethos of our school
- provide a sense of belonging and identity
- let our children know it is time for school
- ensure children are dressed practically and safely for all lessons and activities
- enhance safeguarding, ensuring all children can be identified as belonging to Red Marsh School.
Roles and Responsibilities
This policy has been consulted on and agreed by our governors, staff, school council and as part of a parent/carer consultation. This policy identifies the responsibilities, regarding school uniform, of School, parents/carers and the children who attend Red Marsh Special School. These responsibilities are outlined below.
Red Marsh School will:
Develop a uniform policy which ensures our uniform is practical, inclusive and ensures the cost of uniform is reasonable and secures best value for money. This will include:
- Publishing this policy and our uniform list on the school website so it is available for parents/carers to access;
- Ensuring our uniform can be adapted to meet the needs of our children and our school community. Individual risk assessments can be completed to accommodate individual pupils needs, however pupils must wear adequate clothing to maintain their dignity.
- Ensuring second-hand uniform is available for parents/carers to acquire. Information on how to purchase second-hand uniform will be published on the school website;
- Avoiding frequent changes to uniform specifications;
- Ensuring no pupil is discouraged from participating in any aspect of school life, such as interschool competitions, because of the cost of additional uniform requirements. We will supply any additional uniform that is not identified on our school uniform list for example aprons for cooking.
- Ensuring uniform can be purchased from school or from a range of suppliers including local super markets
Parents and Carers will:
- Support their child to come to school dressed in their school uniform as listed on the website and, if required, has the appropriate uniform for the lessons they will participate in during the day e.g. swimming
- Inform Sarah Holyhead, our family support worker, if they require support to provide the specified uniform for their child. The school will work with all parent/carers to support them to ensure their child/children have the correct uniform.
Pupils/Children will:
- Will be supported to come to school dressed in their school uniform
Concerns about the school uniform policy
If a parent/carer wants to discuss the uniform policy please ring school and ask to speak to your child’s teacher.
